Your child's competition round (time) is based on the

routine LEVEL they are competing at.

This is the same ROUTINE LEVEL they have been practicing at class.

WHAT ARE THE FLAIR CHAMPS?

It's great to win, BUT, The Flair Champs is not all about the scores.....

This event is all about fun and building each child's confidence! It may seem scary, but the opportunity to perform in front of friends and family in the competition arena at one of Europe’s premier sites for sport is a rare opportunity and all competitors should be very proud of how they have stepped out of their comfort zones! This event is designed to show the children how much they can do and what they can achieve when they push themselves. Performing may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but just by turning up and giving it your best shot is something your children can look back on with pride!

General Warm Up

The children have a group warm up and stretch-out to help settle their minds as well as prepare their bodies for the competition ahead.

March In And Present

They will then march into the arena to some toe tapping music and be presented by club. This is your first chance to clap, cheer, whistle and show your support.... The children will perform their best knowing that you are all backing their success 100%.

Competition Warm Up
All participants will have a 'competition' warm-up time on the apparatus before competing.

Compete

In this competition we have 3 pieces of equipment that participants will be competing on: Floor & Vault for the Gymnasts, and Trampolines for the Trampolinists.

Gymnasts will perform one routine on floor, and two vaults each.

Trampolinists will perform their routines twice.

How does the medal presentation work?

In this competition we will have medals for first, second and third place. For gymnasts, their score on floor and their best vault will be added together to give their overall mark. With presentations for each age group and skill level category. For trampolinists’ final mark, the scores from both routines are added together. Participants compete against those in their category based on skill level and age - you will be able to see who is competing against who, as these are the groups in which the competitors will move to each apparatus with. At the end of the round, the three highest scoring competitors from each category will be awarded a medal in either bronze, silver or gold. This is done in the form of a presentation, and medalists will stand on the podium to be presented- the perfect photo opportunity!

So, please get ready to clap, cheer and stamp your feet. Let's encourage all the young, brave competitors at our 2019 Flair Champs Event

The Flair Champs is our annual celebration where every single Flair member gets to take part in a fun and exciting confidence-building competition with children of similar age and ability from all of the Flair Gym Clubs.

Judging & Scoring Guide

How is the judging done?

You may be surprised to know how our Gymnastics and Trampoline judging is done! Instead of being awarded marks for performing well, competitors will have a start value, from which marks are deducted.

Depending on their routine level, gymnastics floor routine competitors will have a start value of 8, 9, or 10, and are divided into categories depending on whether they are Novice, Intermediate or in the Open category. Each skill in the routine has its own value, and deductions will be made on each skill depending on how well it was performed.

Trampoline competitors have a start value of 10 unless they are performing a tailor-made “voluntary” routine with higher start tariff.

Each gymnastics routine level also has two ‘performance marks’. This takes into account the artistry of the performer - such as whether they smiled and used all of the space provided.

Vault

Much like floor and trampoline, vault is also marked through start values and deductions. Like floor, the start value rises with the difficulty of the skill being performed. Gymnasts perform two vaults, and the better score is chosen as the final mark. This can allow for one easier vault to be performed, and then one harder vault with a higher start value.

What is the main focus of the FLAIR CHAMPS?

It's great to win, BUT, the event is not all about the scores.....
This event is all about fun and building each child's confidence! It may seem scary, but the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of people at one of Europe’s premier sites for sport is a rare opportunity and all competitors should be very proud of how they have stepped out of their comfort zones! This event is designed to show the competitors how much they can do and what they can achieve when they push themselves. Performing may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but just by turning up today and giving it your best shot is something you can look back on with pride!

An encouraging word from our founder and CEO Richard...

Congratulations and thank you for supporting your children to step up

and step out of their comfort zone into the arena of competition.

I set up Flair Gymnastics in 1998 to help children from all walks of life build

their confidence and life skills in the same way that I got to build mine through

the sport of gymnastics.

My mum (Kathy), was and still is my biggest cheerleader and it is through supportive

parents, relatives and friends just like YOU that your children grow and learn

to contribute to the world.

My gymnastics background lead me to become a stuntman for TV & film working on productions such as: Game of Thrones & Harry Potter, it's allowed me to step out of my comfort zone into the public speaking arena and to set up companies including Flair Gymnastics and Kidz Impact. I am positive that your child's gymnastics background will set them up with an amazing foundation to be able to take on anything they set their mind to do in life.

I am a firm believer that the only thing that stops us from doing anything in life, is FEAR and I know that we can conquer FEAR by continually learning to live outside of our comfort zone.

Below is my short video we created on 'how to remove fear from your life'

Here is a short article you may find useful about competitions:

Thank you for being part of your child's Flair Champs adventure,

I wish your budding young gymnast much success.

Best wishes,
